Xbox Live and party chat have been down for thousands of users, with many complaining about the 0x80004005 error. According to Downdetector, over 1900 people have reported issues with Xbox, with most facing server connection problems.

Users have voiced their frustrations on social media, with some expressing concerns about the impact on real-life conversations. One user wrote, 'This app isn't just for games, it actually has real lives hanging in the balance.'

Xbox Support has yet to comment on the outage or its cause. However, users have suggested possible fixes for the 0x80004005 error, including signing out/in of the app, restarting the console/PC, or repairing Gaming Services.

For PC users, updating Windows and the Xbox app, verifying date/time settings, or using PowerShell to remove/reinstall gaming services may also help. However, given the number of people facing troubles, the issue is likely on Xbox's end and user-level fixes are unlikely to solve the problem.
