The last chance to link your Aadhaar card with PAN Card is just around the corner, with December 31 being the deadline. Failing to do so will result in a hefty fine of Rs. 1,000. Moreover, your PAN card may become inoperative if not linked to Aadhaar. The Income Tax Department has made it mandatory to link both documents. To avoid these consequences, follow our simplified 6-step guide: 1. Log in to the e-filing portal of income tax and click on the 'link Aadhaar' option in the 'profile' section. 2. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number and proceed to the payment page. 3. Select the relevant Assessment Year and payment type as 'Other Receipts.' 4. After successful payment, revisit the 'link Aadhaar' page. 5. Fill in the required details and submit the Pan-Aadhaar link request. 6. Once submitted, your link request will be processed. As per the rules, linking Aadhaar with PAN is mandatory for everyone, including those applying for a new PAN card. The late fee of Rs. 1,000 will apply to all cases, including existing PAN and Aadhaar IDs that haven't been linked. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced digital Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, making it easier for banks to verify customers through Aadhaar OTP-based authentication, video KYC, or in-person verification when necessary.
