In a historic feat for women's empowerment and sustainable development, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu set a new Guinness World Record by distributing 3,742 e-cycles within a 24-hour period. The e-cycles, part of a larger initiative called the Swarna Kuppam Vision 2029, were handed out to Self-Help Group members, village secretariat employees, and other working women in his home constituency of Kuppam. The e-cycles, supplied by e-Motorad and assembled in Kuppam, offer a 60-kilometer range on a single charge and can be powered by rooftop solar energy. This not only saves the owners up to ₹1,500 per month in fuel costs but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 75%. In contrast, a standard petrol scooter emits approximately 68 g CO2 per km, while the e-cycle generates just 15.2 gram CO2 per km. The record-breaking distribution is a significant step towards making Kuppam a net-zero model and promoting the use of e-mobility across Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Naidu, who led a 3 km e-cycle rally to demonstrate the ease and efficiency of these electric bicycles, hailed the Super Cycle as a catalyst for self-confidence and economic independence. The success of this initiative has inspired the state to promote the usage of Super Cycles across the state. As Naidu put it, 'Kuppam's success proves that net-zero is not a Western luxury - it is an Indian necessity.' The e-cycle programme is a cornerstone of the Swarna Kuppam Vision 2029, developed by the Kuppam Area Development Authority in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, to transform the constituency into a model for sustainable development.
