The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated plans to revamp the masterplan for Amaravati, the state's capital city, following the decision to expand the capital region. The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has invited consultants to design an integrated masterplan, incorporating infrastructure, financial, and land pooling area planning. According to sources, the APCRDA aims to acquire an additional 20,494 acres of land, in addition to the existing 34,385 acres, to accommodate the proposed expansion. This includes a new railway station, sports city, airport, smart city, and inner ring road. The masterplan for the first phase was prepared by Surbana Jurong Private Limited, a Singaporean consultancy firm. The new integrated masterplan will not only update the spatial and infrastructure plans but also draft a financial plan, considering long-term economic viability and phased investments. The APCRDA aims to finalize a comprehensive and forward-looking master plan, aligning urban growth with infrastructure, economic planning, and future expansion requirements. Consultancy firms have until February 6 to submit their bids, with the technical bids to be opened on the same day. The decision to expand the capital city region was taken in November, and the government has identified seven villages for land pooling and acquisition. The expanded masterplan will cover a larger area, with a focus on sustainable urban development and long-term growth.
