In a pre-dawn attack, armed insurgents targeted an Assam Rifles camp in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district, close to the India-Myanmar border. The incident occurred on Monday morning, prompting a brief but intense gunfight with security forces. Authorities suspect the involvement of ULFA(I) and NSCN(K-YA) cadres in the assault. According to officials, the exchange of fire lasted approximately 15 minutes, from 8:45 am to 9:00 am. Following the brief confrontation, the insurgents retreated into the nearby jungle. A search operation was underway at the time of reporting. Thankfully, no Assam Rifles personnel were injured in the incident. The camp is located near the company operating base (COB) of Ranglum, about 7 kilometers from the international border. The Assam Rifles personnel were patrolling the area due to intelligence inputs about the presence of ULFA and NSCN(K-YA) cadres in the region. The officials revealed that the insurgents attempted to create a stir on Republic Day but failed to achieve their goal. The fire, they said, was not effective and was fired from a distance. The security forces responded promptly, forcing the insurgents to retreat into the dense jungle. The area has seen increased security presence in the past two days, with stringent searches and checks being conducted. The incident is being investigated, and further details are awaited.
