Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led a tribute to former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur on his 102nd birth anniversary. Known as the 'Jannayak', Thakur was a socialist icon who served as Bihar's chief minister twice, from 1970-1971 and 1977-1979. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024. The tribute was paid at a statue of Thakur in the Bihar Vidhan Sabha premises, where senior ministers and Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha were present. Deputy CM Vijay Sinha praised Thakur's commitment to simplicity and honesty, which he said should be emulated in politics. Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar noted Thakur's significant contributions to the freedom movement and Bihar's politics. The Nitish Kumar government is working to build a 'Bihar of Karpoori Thakur's dreams', based on his ideals. Thakur's legacy includes the 'Karpoori Thakur formula', which paved the way for reservations for economically backward classes, OBCs, women, and the economically poor among upper castes.
