Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent call to reduce fuel consumption has sparked discussions about everyday responsibility and the larger energy challenge ahead. However, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Madhya Pradesh seemed to miss the memo, arriving in a flashy, fuel-guzzling convoy.
PM Modi had advised citizens to adopt austerity measures, including car pooling, using public transport, and working from home. His appeal came amid global economic disruptions due to the US-Israeli strikes on Iran and the latter's retaliation.
Despite PM Modi's call, BJP leader Saubhagya Singh Thakur arrived in Bhopal with his supporters in a convoy of dozens of vehicles, sparking reactions. Congress took a 'lecture for public' dig, saying that PM Modi expects all sacrifices from the public while leaders from his own party enjoy themselves.
However, PM Modi and many other senior leaders and ministers in the Centre and states took note of the appeal and issued similar austerity measures, including reducing the size of their convoys.
