The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reviewing its dismal performance in Tamil Nadu, attributing the loss to a lack of a popular face, failure to negotiate a pre-poll alliance, and a weak cadre.

The party's top brass is set to chair a meeting to discuss the party's performance, followed by a rejig in the state's organisational setup.

Leaders have identified several key reasons for the loss, including the failure to recognize actor Vijay's popularity and the inability to form a larger front against the ruling DMK.

The BJP had fielded contestants on 33 of the 234 seats, winning a single seat with a vote share of 2.97%.

Party functionaries have pointed out that the reliance on the AIADMK, which was facing challenges after the death of J Jayalalithaa, also contributed to the loss.

The BJP will need to focus on finding and promoting a face that resonates with the masses, as voters in the state prefer leaders with a "cult-like" following.
