BJP Secures Landslide Victory in 2026 Civic Polls, Capturing 1,425 Seats Across 29 Municipal Corporations

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in the 2026 civic polls, securing an impressive 1,425 seats out of a total 2,869 across 29 municipal corporations. The party's sweeping victory has ended the Thackeray family's three-decade-long dominance in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), with the BJP and its ally, Shiv Sena, winning 89 and 29 seats respectively in the 227-member BMC. In the BMC, the BJP's ally, Shiv Sena (UBT), managed 65 seats, while the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) secured six seats. The Congress, which fought in alliance with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), secured 24 seats, AIMIM eight, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) three, the Samajwadi Party two, and the NCP (SP) just one seat. The BJP's victory streak continued in other municipal corporations, including Pune, where it secured 119 seats, leaving the NCP and its allies in a distant second and third position. In Nagpur, the BJP secured 102 seats, while the Congress managed a mere 34. Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar also saw the BJP emerge victorious, securing 72 and 57 seats respectively. According to the final tally, the BJP secured 1,425 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with 399, Congress with 324, NCP with 167, Shiv Sena (UBT) with 155, NCP (SP) with 36, MNS with 13, BSP with six, and other parties with 129 seats. The elections were held in 29 municipal corporations across the state of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, and others.
