In a decisive victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 23 of Maharashtra's 29 municipal corporations, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), marking a significant shift in state politics. The BJP's dominance has ended the Thackeray family's 25-year control over Mumbai, a city that was the Shiv Sena's stronghold. The BJP's win has been described as a watershed moment, consolidating the party's position as the principal force in urban Maharashtra. The party emerged as the single-largest party in Mumbai and in 22 other municipal corporations, outpacing both the Opposition and its Mahayuti allies. The results have boosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who led the campaign with a development-focused pitch. Modi thanked voters, saying that Maharashtra had "blessed the NDA's agenda of pro-people good governance.
