Congress leaders from Kerala gathered at the party chief Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in New Delhi to discuss their strategy for the upcoming state assembly polls. However, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor was absent from the meeting, sparking speculation that he is unhappy with the party's treatment. The meeting, which took place on Friday, was attended by senior party leaders including Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and KPCC chief Sunny Joseph. The discussions focused on preparations for the state polls, with the election committee set to convene on January 27 to finalize candidate selection. According to sources, Tharoor had informed the party of his inability to attend the meeting due to prior commitments at the Kerala Literature Festival in Kozhikode. However, people close to him claim that he is upset with the party's handling of certain issues. The meeting did not address one of the contentious topics –– whether Lok Sabha MPs should be allowed to contest assembly elections. Kharge, however, expressed optimism about the party's chances in the upcoming polls, stating that it was an important preparatory meeting with Kerala leaders.
