Mumbai Congress leader Bhai Jagtap has called for the resignation of party president Varsha Gaikwad following a dismal performance in the recent BMC elections. Jagtap's demand comes after the party suffered its worst-ever tally, winning just 24 seats out of 227 contested. In a statement, Jagtap emphasized the importance of delivering results, stating that leadership is not about holding a position, but about achieving outcomes. However, his public remarks did not sit well with the Congress leadership, prompting a show-cause notice from AICC secretary U B Venkatesh. The notice cited Jagtap's conduct as undermining the party's collective leadership, damaging its image, and creating avoidable confusion and indiscipline. Despite efforts to reach out to Jagtap, he remained unavailable for comment. In a contrasting view, Sachin Sawant, chief spokesperson of the Mumbai Congress, described the party's performance as 'satisfactory' given the challenging circumstances. The BMC poll results have raised questions about the effectiveness of the Congress leadership in Mumbai, with many calling for a change in the party's approach.
