Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta marked the 77th Republic Day by launching a slew of development projects worth ₹327 crore for the city's slum clusters. The initiatives focus on upgrading basic civic infrastructure in jhuggi-jhopri (JJ) clusters, including the construction of public convenience complexes, cement concrete roads, and lanes. Gupta, who shared a meal with residents at her residence, emphasized her government's commitment to improving living conditions in these settlements. She accused the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of treating JJ dwellers as a mere vote bank and failing to provide them with basic civic amenities. The approved projects worth ₹327 crore include works such as the construction of public convenience complexes and cement concrete roads and lanes in JJ clusters. Officials stated that ₹144 crore worth of works have already been awarded and are underway. Gupta highlighted the significant contribution of slum residents to the city's growth, stating that her government aims to ensure that the benefits of development reach the last mile of society. She also announced a dedicated budget of ₹700 crore for JJ development, prioritizing essential works such as drains, roads, toilets, parks, and settlement development centers. The Delhi government has also ensured facilities such as Atal Canteens, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and dedicated health and nutrition services for JJ residents. Gupta's interaction with slum dwellers and the inauguration of projects are seen as a significant step towards strengthening her government's commitment to nation-building and serving the people.
