Delhi Govt's New Scheme Aids Caregivers of PwDs with High Support Needs

The Delhi government's new scheme to support caregivers of people with benchmark disabilities requiring high support has garnered over 1,000 applications. The scheme, run by the Social Welfare Department, provides ₹6,000 per month to caregivers of individuals with disabilities who need intensive support for daily activities. According to officials, around 1,200 applications have been received, and they are currently undergoing verification. To be eligible, applicants must score between 60 and 100 on an assessment conducted by a designated board, possess a permanent disability certificate, and have a Delhi residence with an annual family income not exceeding ₹1 lakh. The scheme aims to support individuals with benchmark disabilities who require continuous assistance to live with dignity and participate in social, educational, and economic activities. The term 'high support' refers to the intensive support required by individuals with benchmark disabilities to carry out daily activities. Subject to the fulfillment of all scheme provisions, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₹6,000 per month from the date of sanction, in addition to any existing financial aid. The scheme was notified on September 15 and launched on September 17, and officials are working to verify the applications and provide assistance to eligible caregivers.
