The Delhi High Court has set aside the Centre's decision rejecting The Wire founding editor Siddharth Varadarajan's plea to convert his Person of Indian Origin status to Overseas Citizen of India.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav restored the American journalist's application and asked authorities to take a fresh decision in accordance with law and pass a reasoned order.

The court found that the Centre's refusal to convert Varadarajan's PIO status to OCI was without reason, and that the impugned communication was set aside.

The central government counsel was asked to reconsider the decision and pass a reasoned order.

The court also listed Varadarajan's plea to let him travel for hearing on Wednesday.
