The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to establish guidelines for spy-thriller films, citing concerns that such movies may reveal sensitive information related to the armed forces.
The court's decision came in response to a petition filed by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel, Deepak Kumar, who argued that scenes in the movie 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' had the potential to compromise national security.
The petitioner contended that the explicit depiction of locations, operations, and characters in the film could adversely affect national security and integrity, and that similar concerns had been raised in the past regarding films such as 'Bell Bottom', 'Mission Majnu', 'Raazi', and 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'.
The court observed that while the movie is a work of fiction, its impact cannot be denied, and that there should be some guidelines in place to address the concerns raised by the petitioner.
The Centre and the CBFC have been directed to consider the petition as a representation and take an appropriate decision on the issues raised therein.
