Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed his admiration for the Tamil civilisation, describing it as 'great', as he joined the Pongal celebrations at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in Chennai on Wednesday. During the event, Pradhan acknowledged the diverse ways in which harvest festivals are celebrated across the country, mentioning Bihu in Assam, Lohri in Punjab, and Makar Sankranti in his home state of Odisha, among others. The minister extended his greetings in Tamil and praised the spirit of Pongal, wishing the audience prosperity and good health. In a social media post, Pradhan shared his joy in celebrating the festival with the IIT Madras community, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage and unity. He expressed his appreciation for the vibrant culture of Tamil Nadu and the values of abundance, warmth, and togetherness embodied by Pongal.
