In a disturbing case, a 19-year-old woman from Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, claims that her husband and in-laws subjected her to physical abuse and harassment over dowry demands during her pregnancy. The alleged mistreatment, which included being kicked in the abdomen, is believed to have led to the stillbirth of one of her twins. According to Inspector Sachchidanand Pandey, Rubina Bano was married to Salman Shah, a 24-year-old, in May 2024. Shortly after the marriage, her in-laws began demanding an additional ₹1 lakh in cash and a 'Bullet' motorcycle, claiming the dowry brought was insufficient. Bano's refusal to meet these demands led to her being confined to a room and subjected to physical assault on several occasions. A particularly violent incident occurred on May 21, 2025, when Bano was allegedly locked in a room, beaten, and kicked in the abdomen. Her condition deteriorated, and she was sent to her parental home in Bhadohi. Bano gave birth to twins on May 29, but one baby was stillborn. Despite medical treatment, her life and that of the other child were saved. Acting on Bano's complaint, the police have booked six people, including her husband and five members of his family, under various sections of the law. Further legal proceedings are underway. This case highlights the devastating consequences of dowry harassment and the need for stronger measures to protect victims of domestic violence.
