A deadly outbreak of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) has claimed two lives in Manasa, a town in Madhya Pradesh's Neemuch district. The government has launched a swift response to detect and treat patients, with a control room set up, a special ward created at the local hospital, and arrangements made for ambulances and medication. Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla visited Manasa over the weekend to assess the situation, revealing that 14 cases of GBS have been detected so far. The disease, which causes the immune system to mistakenly attack the nervous system, can lead to numbness, muscle weakness, and difficulty swallowing or breathing. While the government has ruled out contamination in the town's water supply, samples have been sent to labs in Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune for further testing. Efforts are underway to educate residents on preventing the spread of GBS and conducting door-to-door health surveys. The state government is covering the cost of treatment for patients, with two currently on life support. Officials are working to identify the source of the outbreak and contain its spread, ensuring that the situation is brought under control as soon as possible.
