In a bid to curb the spread of objectionable content on social media, the Haryana Police has launched a digital campaign in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The initiative, which began about a month ago, has resulted in the removal of 583 links and profiles deemed to be inciting tension, promoting anti-national or anti-religious sentiments, or spreading misinformation. According to the police, a total of 1,018 objectionable links and profiles have been reported so far, with the remaining 435 undergoing review. The cyber team is working closely with social media companies to identify and take down such content. The Haryana Police has also launched a separate campaign to combat digital fraud, specifically targeting suspicious trading and investment apps and channels. So far, 28 such entities have been identified, with 14 being removed from digital platforms and the remaining 14 undergoing final review. The police has emphasized the importance of responsible social media usage and has urged citizens to report any suspicious posts, links, or apps to the authorities. The goal of the campaign is to create a safe and reliable digital environment, as stated by Additional DGP Cyber Shibash Kabiraj.
