Karnataka Police have filed charges against right-wing Hindu activist Puneeth Kerehalli and his associates for allegedly spreading false and provocative information targeting Director-General of Police MA Saleem. The incident occurred on January 22, when Kerehalli and his group visited a settlement near Swetha Farm in Kempapura and broadcast a live video on social media, claiming that people from Bangladesh were being trafficked and housed there. They also accused Saleem of owning the property and alleged that Bangladeshi Muslims were living illegally in Bengaluru. According to the police, their social media monitoring cell detected the video on January 23, leading to an investigation under the IT Act and other relevant sections. This is not the first time Kerehalli has faced legal action, with 13 previous cases filed against him in the city. The police have invoked provisions that promote enmity between different groups and statements likely to cause public mischief, as they probe the incident further.
