The Supreme Court has ruled that Hinduism is a way of life, stating that it's not necessary for a Hindu to visit a temple or perform rituals to prove their faith.

Justice BV Nagarathna observed that even lighting a lamp inside one's home is enough to prove one's belief.

The court made this observation while hearing petitions related to discrimination against women at religious places, including the Sabarimala temple in Kerala.

The ruling comes after advocate Dr G Mohan Gopal submitted that Hinduism was defined as a religious category, but not everyone classified as Hindu accepts the Vedas as the highest authority.

The top court had earlier observed that questioning every religious practice before a constitutional court could lead to hundreds of petitions and the breakdown of religions.
