Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni announced a strengthened strategic partnership between India and Italy, focusing on defence, innovation, and tackling terror financing.
During a joint press conference in Rome, Modi stated that the India-Italy joint strategic action plan 2025-2029 will provide a practical and futuristic framework for their ties.
Italy has become India's fourth-largest trading partner in the European Union, and the country also has a strong Indian community of nearly two million Indians.
The two leaders also announced the launch of an India-Italy innovation centre and increased cooperation in defence, particularly in shipping, ports modernisation, logistics, and the blue economy.
Modi and Meloni highlighted the importance of freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region and expressed their commitment to tackling terror financing, with Modi stating that the collaboration between the two countries has emerged as an example before the world.
