India has urged Iranian authorities to grant consular access to 16 Indian crew members of a seized oil tanker and expedite their trial. The Valiant Roar, operated by Dubai-based Glory International FZ-LLC, was seized by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on December 8, with crew members accused of fuel smuggling. After repeated requests, the Indian embassy in Tehran said Iranian authorities have been informed about the detention and consular access has been sought through diplomatic channels. The crew, including Indians, a Bangladeshi, and a Sri Lankan, is facing judicial proceedings in Iran. The Indian consulate in Bandar Abbas is in touch with the vessel's owner and agents to provide essential supplies and arrange legal representation. The Indian government has intervened to ensure emergency supplies after learning of depleting food and water stocks on the vessel. Relatives of the Indian crew members have appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter, prompting the Indian embassy to issue a statement urging Iranian authorities to grant consular access and expedite the trial.
