In a significant development, the National Board for Wildlife's standing committee has cleared 17 defence-related proposals in sensitive border areas, including Ladakh and Sikkim. The proposals, which were reviewed at the 88th meeting of the committee, aim to strengthen strategic infrastructure in high-altitude regions while ensuring strict environmental safeguards. According to the union environment ministry, the proposals were recommended to address national security concerns and strategic requirements. The committee also reviewed the implementation of its previous decisions, including the improvement of the PARIVESH portal to streamline policy measures and process. A total of 70 proposals, including those for public utility services, defence requirements, and infrastructure development, were considered by the committee. These proposals involved various projects, such as drinking water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission, primary and community health centres, road widening, and 4G mobile towers. The committee also discussed proposals related to irrigation projects in Madhya Pradesh, which will provide drinking and irrigation water facilities in the Bundelkhand region while also enhancing the water regime for wildlife and gharials.
