As tensions in Iran continue to escalate, Indians who returned to New Delhi on Friday are recounting their harrowing experiences amidst widespread protests and an internet shutdown. The Indian government's swift evacuation efforts have been widely praised by the returning nationals, who expressed gratitude for the Embassy's assistance. According to eyewitness accounts, the situation in Iran was 'dangerous' due to the regime's crackdown on protestors. The internet shutdown, imposed after the protests began, severely impacted communication with family members back in India. 'We were worried as we couldn't contact our families or the embassy,' said a national. However, a few Indians who returned also described the situation as 'normal,' with one student, pursuing an MBBS at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, stating that the internet clampdown continued. The Iranian government's crackdown has resulted in over 3,000 fatalities, with protests dying down following the arrests of numerous protestors. Despite some connectivity being restored, the internet remains largely shut down in the country. The Indian Embassy in Tehran had advised nationals, including students, businesspeople, pilgrims, and tourists, to leave Iran, citing a volatile security situation. The government's focus remains on the evacuation of Indian students from the country.
