Karnataka's Director General of Police (DGP) K Ramachandra Rao has been suspended with immediate effect following allegations of misconduct with women at his office. A viral video that surfaced on social media appears to show Rao engaging in compromising behavior, but officials say the footage is a compilation of multiple clips recorded over time. The authenticity of the video has not been verified. The suspension letter from the Karnataka government states that Rao's behavior is 'unbecoming of a government servant' and violates the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968. Rao has denied the allegations, claiming the video was created using artificial intelligence technology. He also suggested that the video was fabricated from a clip recorded eight years ago when he was posted in Belagavi. The suspension order, issued on January 19, 2026, states that Rao will be paid subsistence allowance during the period of suspension. An inquiry will be conducted into the matter. The Karnataka government has taken this step to maintain the integrity and professionalism of its officials.
