In a shocking move, the Karnataka government has suspended senior IPS officer K Ramachandra Rao, the Director General of Police, following the circulation of a viral video clip on social media. The clip, which allegedly shows Rao engaging in inappropriate behavior with a woman inside his office, has sparked outrage and demands for swift action from opposition parties. According to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the state government has initiated a preliminary inquiry into the matter. Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah emphasized that disciplinary action will be taken against any officer found guilty of misconduct, regardless of their seniority. Rao, however, has denied the allegations, claiming that the video is AI-generated and part of a conspiracy to tarnish his reputation. He alleged that the video was created using footage recorded eight years ago when he was posted in Belagavi. Rao's attempt to meet Home Minister G Parameshwara was unsuccessful, and he has vowed to consult his lawyer to clear his name. This latest controversy comes months after Rao was reinstated as DGP in August, following his reinstatement after being sent on compulsory leave in March. Rao's stepdaughter, actor Ranya Rao, was arrested in a high-profile gold smuggling case in March, which led to his initial suspension. The Karnataka government's swift action on Rao's suspension reflects its commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity within the police force. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Rao's claims of an AI-generated video will hold up to scrutiny.
