Karnataka Governor Delivers Unabridged Republic Day Address, Emphasizes State's Progress and Growth

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot made headlines on Monday by delivering the state's full Republic Day address without omitting any points. This year's speech was significant as it contained no major criticisms of the Union government. Instead, it highlighted the state's flagship welfare programs, economic investments, and administrative measures aimed at supporting vulnerable sections and boosting the economy. Gehlot revealed that 13.7 million families in Karnataka received direct financial benefits from government schemes in 2024-25, with over ₹1.13 lakh crore disbursed under the five guarantee schemes. This expenditure is part of the state's annual budget of ₹1.12 lakh crore, which also includes initiatives to empower women and create jobs. The address also outlined the government's growth plans, including a ₹1,000 crore Local Economy Accelerator Programme that aims to create five lakh jobs over five years. Additionally, the Karnataka Quantum Roadmap envisions building a $20 billion quantum economy by 2035, while projects worth ₹1.5 lakh crore are underway in Bengaluru. The Governor also touched upon administrative updates, including the disposal of over 80 percent of long-pending revenue court cases and the completion of 91,163 podis. Furthermore, agreements have been signed to procure 3,704 MW of electricity from private companies, and state-owned firms have action plans to generate an additional 4,794 MW. In his address, Gehlot emphasized the importance of preserving the federal structure and protecting the Constitution. He urged the people to elect representatives who understand the core spirit of the Constitution and preserve democracy through continuous questioning and dialogue.
