Intelligence agencies have sounded an alarm, warning that Khalistani terrorist groups and Bangladesh-based outfits may target Delhi and other cities as Republic Day approaches. Punjab-based gangsters are reportedly being used as foot soldiers by radical handlers operating from abroad, allegedly linking up with Khalistani elements. According to intelligence sources, these gangsters are active in Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and are increasingly establishing ties with terrorist groups. As a result, security has been beefed up in the region, with authorities conducting simulated drills at crowded locations to test preparedness. In Delhi, North District Police conducted four mock exercises at sensitive areas, including Red Fort, ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Metro stations, to assess response time and security arrangements. The Republic Day parade on January 26 will feature 30 tableaux showcasing India's rich heritage and development achievements, with the theme of 'Svatantrata Ka Mantr - Vande Maataram' marking 150 years of the national song 'Vande Mataram'. Security is on high alert in the region, with authorities taking precautions to prevent any potential threats. The alert comes in the wake of the Red Fort blast in December, which exposed a massive terror module. As Republic Day celebrations approach, authorities are working to ensure a secure and peaceful event.
