The Swadeshi Jagran Manch, an RSS-affiliated organisation, has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for austerity measures to reduce India's dependence on foreign nations and save valuable foreign exchange.
The organisation's national co-convenor, Ashwani Mahajan, said that Modi's appeal is a call for 'Swadeshi' (using locally produced goods) and aims to reduce dependence on imports and save foreign exchange.
Mahajan added that reducing petrol and diesel consumption will not only save foreign exchange but also enable the country to effectively deal with shortages caused by disruptions in supply.
The long-term solution, according to Mahajan, lies in making India self-reliant in the energy sector, especially in renewable and green energy, and manufacturing clean technologies, including electric vehicles and solar energy equipment.
He appealed to citizens, the scientific community, academic institutions, and entrepreneurs to join the campaign to reduce foreign dependence and contribute to the creation of a strong and self-reliant India.
