New Delhi: The government has made significant strides in combating Left Wing Extremism (LWE), with a staggering 88% drop in violence since 2010. According to data revealed in the Lok Sabha, over 7,400 Naxals have been arrested, and 5,880 have surrendered since 2019. In 2025, security forces successfully neutralized 364 Naxals, arrested 1,022, and facilitated 2,337 surrenders. The number of LWE-affected districts has decreased dramatically, from 126 in 2018 to just eight in December 2025. Only three districts now face the most significant threats. The government has also made concerted efforts to choke LWE activities by cutting off their financial lifelines. To improve connectivity in LWE-affected areas, 9,233 towers have been commissioned, and 15,016 kilometers of roads have been constructed under specific schemes. Furthermore, the government has launched various development initiatives, including the establishment of 46 Industrial Training Institutes, 49 Skill Development Centres, and 179 Eklavya Model Residential Schools. In addition, 6,025 post offices, 1,804 bank branches, and 1,321 ATMs have been opened in most LWE-affected districts, enhancing financial inclusion and access to essential services. The government's multi-faceted approach has shown promising results, with a significant reduction in LWE-related violence and a notable improvement in the quality of life for residents in affected areas.
