A 27-year-old software engineer, Yuvraj Mehta, tragically lost his life after his car plunged into a water-filled excavation pit in Sector 150, Greater Noida, sparking outrage over civic lapses and delayed rescue efforts. The builder, Abhay Kumar, was arrested by the Knowledge Park Police after receiving manual intelligence and confidential information. The excavation pit, over 20 feet deep, was left unguarded with no warning signs or reflective markers, and was allegedly dug for a building's basement. On Saturday, Mehta was returning home from his office in Gurgaon when dense fog caused him to lose control of his vehicle, which crashed through a boundary and fell into the pit. In a desperate attempt to save himself, Mehta climbed onto the roof of his partially submerged car and called his father for help, pleading to be rescued for 90 minutes. Unfortunately, he was pulled out deceased, with an autopsy report revealing asphyxia due to ante-mortem drowning followed by cardiac arrest. An FIR has been registered against Abhay Kumar and another real estate developer, charging them with negligence, including the absence of barricades, reflectors, and mandatory safety measures. This incident highlights the need for stricter safety protocols and timely interventions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
