A 27-year-old software engineer, Yuvraj Mehta, met a tragic end in Noida when his car plunged into a water-filled pit while he was driving home from work. Mehta, who was on his way back to his residence in Tata Eureka Park, Sector 150, lost control of his car while navigating a turn in dense fog, leading to the fatal accident. According to eyewitnesses, Mehta managed to climb onto the roof of his car and called his father for help around midnight. However, despite hours of rescue attempts, Mehta drowned due to the delayed response of the emergency teams. The police investigation revealed that the rescue efforts were hindered by poor visibility, lack of equipment, and inadequate training. Moninder, a delivery agent who attempted to save Mehta, alleged that the police pressured him to give a scripted statement, downplaying their role in the rescue operation. A three-member special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the circumstances surrounding Mehta's death. The team has collected evidence, interviewed witnesses, and questioned officials from the Noida authority, police, and administration. Mehta's father has filed a police complaint, alleging that residents had requested the Noida authority to install barricades and reflectors near the drain, but no action was taken. An FIR has been filed against the developers of the area, Lotus Greens Construction Pvt Ltd and MZ Wiztown Planners Pvt Ltd, under sections 105, 106, and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The autopsy report confirmed that Mehta died due to asphyxia caused by ante-mortem drowning, followed by cardiac arrest. Mehta's friends have expressed outrage over the delayed response of the emergency teams and the alleged pressure exerted on witnesses to suppress the truth. The Noida authority has faced criticism for its inaction in preventing such accidents in the past. The SIT probe is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Mehta's tragic demise and the lapses that led to his death.
