Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the Congress of prioritizing infiltrators over Assam's culture and identity during a visit to the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. Addressing the Bagurumba Dhwou 2026, a cultural event of the Bodo community, Modi criticized the Congress for its opposition to honoring Bhupen Hazarika with the Bharat Ratna and setting up a semiconductor facility in Assam. Modi claimed that the Congress favors foreign infiltrators, who allegedly became hardcore party supporters and encroached upon large tracts of land. He expressed satisfaction with the current government's efforts to reclaim lakhs of bighas of encroached land. The PM praised the Bodo peace accord of January 2020, which paved the way for peace and development in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). On Sunday, he will lay the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a ₹6,950 crore national highway project that will feature an elevated wildlife corridor, bypass sections, and road widening. Modi will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains, the Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express and the Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) Amrit Bharat Express. The event at Sarusajai Stadium showcased the Bodo community's rich heritage, with nearly 10,000 women dancers participating in the Bagurumba dance from 23 districts of Assam.
