The Congress party has taken a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his repeated claims of ending the India-Pakistan conflict. This has now become the 70th time PM Modi has credited US President Donald Trump with halting Operation Sindoor in May 2025. Trump recently mentioned this in a White House press conference, highlighting his efforts to end eight wars, including the India-Pakistan conflict, which he believed was on the brink of a nuclear war. In a statement on social media, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh sarcastically pointed out that Trump has claimed credit for stopping the conflict between India and Pakistan at least 70 times. Trump's comments came while addressing a packed White House press briefing room, where he also mentioned that he saved millions of lives by ending the conflict. Trump claimed that the prime minister of Pakistan had thanked him for saving 10 million people and possibly more. However, India has consistently denied any third-party intervention in the conflict. Trump also expressed his disappointment at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for ending the wars, including the one between Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Congress party's jab at PM Modi and his repeated claims of credit for Trump's efforts has sparked a debate about the accuracy of Trump's claims and the role of external parties in resolving the conflict.
