The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking to restrain Prasar Bharati from referring to the BCCI's cricket team as 'Team India', terming it as 'frivolous'. The plea, filed by advocate Reepak Kansal, argued that the use of 'Team India' misleads the public and violates laws governing national symbols. However, the bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi upheld the Delhi High Court's order, which junked the PIL. The judges expressed frustration with the repeated filing of such petitions, saying it wastes court time and burdens other litigants. They noted that the BCCI team's international matches and representation of India on the global stage make it clear that they are indeed 'Team India'. The Emblems and Names Act, Flag Code of India, and Right to Information Act were cited as potential laws being violated, but the court deemed the petition to be without merit.
