The Supreme Court has refused to intervene in the Bombay High Court's order suspending the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) polls, scheduled for January 6. The High Court had stayed the elections citing allegations of favoritism, nepotism, and irregularities in the induction of nearly 400 new members. The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, directed the MCA to pursue its remedies before the Bombay High Court, which is set to hear the matter again on February 4. The court observed that the MCA's election process was marred by a lack of transparency and irregularities, including the induction of relatives of the incumbent president and new members with no connection to cricket. The court expressed strong disapproval of the MCA's decision to induct new members, saying, "This is a country that produced outstanding cricketers who have retired. We would have let this be if you had some of them on this list, but you have people who don't even know how to hold a bat!
