Srinagar, Kashmir - A blanket of fresh snow has brought flight operations to a grinding halt at Srinagar Airport, with 50 flights cancelled on Tuesday due to severe weather conditions. The airport, a key gateway to Kashmir's popular tourist destinations, has been shut down as a western disturbance continues to affect the region, dumping moderate to heavy snowfall in the higher reaches and light to moderate snow in the plains. The Srinagar-Jammu national highway remains closed, and rail services have been disrupted, with several trains cancelled due to snow along the tracks. The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain or snow at most places until Tuesday evening, with moderate to heavy snow and gusty winds expected in some areas. The disruption has left many travellers and tourists stranded, with police and district administrations setting up control rooms and helplines to assist the public. The JKUTDMA has issued an avalanche alert, warning of high and medium danger levels above 2,000 metres in several districts. Airport officials have advised passengers to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates and alternate arrangements. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
