A heated controversy has erupted in India following DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran's recent remarks, which highlighted the stark contrast between Tamil Nadu's progress in women's empowerment and the social norms prevalent in northern states. Speaking at an event where students received free laptops under a scheme launched by Chief Minister MK Stalin, Maran emphasized that global giants have set up bases in Tamil Nadu due to its highly educated youth. In contrast, he claimed that in northern states, youngsters are often discouraged from pursuing higher education, with the focus instead on learning Hindi and becoming 'subordinates'. Maran's remarks have sparked outrage from the BJP, with party leaders accusing the DMK of trying to divide the country along regional lines. BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan, national president of the Mahila Morcha, stated that Maran has a history of targeting North Indians and that the DMK's ideology revolves around creating divisions. She pointed out that many young people from Maran's native district in Tamil Nadu have migrated to other countries in search of employment. The BJP's Tamil Nadu spokesperson, Narayanan Thirupathy, further criticized Maran's comments, saying that while it's acceptable to highlight achievements, demeaning others is not the right approach. The controversy has reignited the debate on social justice, women's empowerment, and regional disparities in India.
