In a significant move ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam (AMMK) leader TTV Dhinakaran announced his party's re-entry into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Dhinakaran met Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday, paving the way for the alliance's revival in the state. Dhinakaran emphasized that past differences should not hinder the party's broader interests, stating, "With the larger objective in mind, we should not allow old issues to overshadow the party's interests, the welfare of Tamil Nadu, or push them aside." He also expressed his commitment to unifying the party and working together for the common good. The NDA alliance, led by the AIADMK and the BJP, aims to defeat the ruling DMK-Congress alliance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a public meeting in Maduranthakam on January 23, marking the beginning of the BJP's intensified campaign. The Tamil Nadu elections are expected to become a three-cornered contest, with actor-turned-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party also vying for the top spot. The state is scheduled to hold Assembly elections in the first half of 2026. With the NDA alliance now strengthened, the stage is set for an intriguing battle in the state.
