A former assistant professor at SKIMS Soura in Jammu and Kashmir has been accused of hiding her UK nationality in her job application, leading to the filing of a chargesheet by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). Afshan Shabir, a UK national with an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, was appointed as an assistant professor in 2019 despite being ineligible for the post. Investigation revealed that Shabir submitted false documents, including a state subject certificate, to secure her appointment. Records show that she acquired British citizenship before joining government service, which she allegedly concealed while applying for and continuing in the post. The chargesheet, filed in August 2022, alleges that Shabir's deception caused wrongful gain to herself and loss to the government. Her services were terminated in the same month.
