US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor paid a poignant tribute at the 26/11 memorial at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, remembering the 166 innocent lives lost in the 2008 terror attacks. In a heartfelt post on X, he praised the bravery of Indian security forces and expressed pride in the US's role in extraditing Tahawwur Rana, the alleged mastermind, to India under President Donald Trump's administration. Rana, a Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, was extradited in April 2025 and is currently in judicial custody after being interrogated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case. The 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, were a coordinated assault by 10 terrorists who entered the city via sea route and killed 166 people, injuring hundreds over four days. The attacks targeted iconic locations like the Taj and Oberoi Hotels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and the Jewish centre at Nariman House, which were frequented by foreign nationals and locals alike. The nine LeT terrorists were killed, while one was arrested and later hanged for his crimes. During his visit to Mumbai, Ambassador Gor met with top officials, including CM Devendra Fadnavis and RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, and also visited the historic Gateway of India. His visit comes on the heels of presenting his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 14.
