In a bid to address confusion over electoral roll registration, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Navdeep Rinwa, has clarified the process for voters whose names do not appear in the draft roll after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). According to Rinwa, voters can now choose between two options while registering online: 'new voter' or 'existing voter before SIR 2026.' If they select the latter, they must enter their Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number, which the system validates to confirm their prior registration. This ensures continuity of their voter record. The clarification comes amid concerns over the exclusion of shifted voters from the draft roll. Rinwa explained that voters whose names do not appear in the draft roll should use Form 6 to apply for inclusion, while those whose names are present in the roll should use Form 8 for corrections or changes. Form 7 is used to object to or seek deletion of names due to reasons such as death, permanent migration, or duplication. Rinwa cited examples of voters who had shifted residences and found their names missing from the draft roll. He emphasized that Form 6 is the only option for such voters, who can then apply for inclusion without losing continuity of their earlier registration. This clarification aims to alleviate concerns and provide a clear process for voters to follow.
