Actor-politician C Joseph Vijay, also known as 'Thalapathy' Vijay, made his maiden speech as Tamil Nadu's chief minister on Tuesday, after securing support from smaller parties and demonstrating his majority.
However, his challenges are not yet over as the newly elected chief minister is yet to face a floor test in the assembly on Wednesday to prove his majority through a vote of confidence.
Vijay's TVK emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, but he needed six more votes to claim majority. The support finally came after smaller parties extended support to Vijay, helping him exceed the majority mark with 120 seats.
However, one TVK MLA, Seenivasa Sethupathy, has been barred from voting in the trust vote due to a court order, citing that every vote counts.
A faction of AIADMK has also extended support to Vijay, claiming that majority MLAs of the party are on their side, which could ensure his comfortable win in the trust vote and continue to govern the state.
