A devastating fire broke out in two warehouses in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Monday, leaving a trail of destruction and raising concerns about the safety of the workers. According to the latest reports, three bodies have been recovered, and at least 13 others are feared dead. The fire, which started around 3 am, spread rapidly to the adjacent warehouse, engulfing the premises. Eyewitnesses claim that the fire broke out in a godown where many workers were trapped. Pankaj Halder, a worker who managed to call his father-in-law, alleged that he and several others were trying to break through a wall to escape. However, their phones went dead, leaving their families in a state of panic. State minister Arup Biswas visited the affected area, assuring that the rescue efforts were underway. "We are working tirelessly to douse the flames and ensure the safety of the workers," he said. However, the opposition BJP has slammed the government, accusing officials of enjoying a long weekend due to Republic Day. "The state government is on leave, and one person from Moyna in East Midnapore district is also missing," said Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP legislator. The police are still verifying the numbers, and the death toll is expected to rise. The rescue efforts are ongoing, with fire tenders working to bring the situation under control. The families of the missing workers are anxiously waiting for news, and the community is coming together to support them in this hour of need.
