Nitin Nabin, the 45-year-old son of a late BJP leader, has been elected as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party's national executive meeting, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several union ministers, saw Nabin assume charge as the youngest leader to hold the post. Nabin, who entered politics in 2006 after his father's death, won a by-election from Patna West. His election was a unanimous decision, with 37 sets of nomination papers backing his candidacy. Notably, Prime Minister Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and others proposed his name. Nabin succeeds outgoing president JP Nadda, who held the post since January 2020. Nadda was first appointed as the party's working president and later given a full three-year term, which was extended till June 2024. The BJP's national executive meeting, held in Delhi on Tuesday, marked a significant moment in the party's history. Nabin's election as the youngest BJP president has sparked interest among party members and analysts, who will be watching his leadership closely.
