The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is set to host the 9th Men's and 9th Women's National Boxing Championships from January 4 to 10, 2026, at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida. This marks the first time the championships will be held simultaneously for both men and women, bringing together India's top senior boxers under one roof. The event was initially scheduled from December 31, 2025, to January 6, 2026, but has been rescheduled due to pollution control measures. Units from across the country will compete in ten weight categories each for men and women, adhering to World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules. Eligible boxers must be born between January 1, 1985, and December 31, 2006, and each unit can field one boxer per category. The competition will follow a global format, with three rounds of three minutes, one-minute rest intervals, and a 10-point must scoring system. The National Championships come at a crucial time for Indian boxing, which has seen a surge in talent in recent years. The previous cycle produced a generation of breakout athletes who excelled at international tournaments, including the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 in Greater Noida, where India won a record 20 medals, including nine golds. BFI President Ajay Singh emphasized the importance of the National Championships, saying, "Strong systems are the backbone of long-term success, and the National Championships are where that system truly begins. This stage creates opportunity, reveals talent, and gives every boxer a fair pathway into the national camp.
