Canada's FIFA World Cup campaign has hit a snag as captain Alphonso Davies has been ruled out of the opener against Bosnia Herzegovina. The Bayern Munich star is still recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in May.

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed the news, stating that Davies' MRI showed 'very positive signs' of healing, but he needs more time to recover.

Despite the setback, Marsch remains optimistic about Davies' return, crediting his private physio and daily concentration on his body's needs.

Canada will face Bosnia Herzegovina in Toronto, followed by matches against Qatar and Switzerland in Vancouver.

Bosnia and Herzegovina qualified for the tournament in dramatic fashion, eliminating Italy in the playoffs, and will rely on Edin Dzeko's attacking threat.
