The Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad was abuzz with excitement as thousands of people, including athletes and fitness enthusiasts, gathered to celebrate Commonwealth Games Day.
Union sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat's deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghvi led the celebrations, joined by top sportspersons like 2012 London Olympics medallist Gagan Narang and World Athletics vice-president Adille Sumariwalla.
The dignitaries participated in a 5km cycling rally alongside 5,000 cyclists, athletes, and youth volunteers.
Mandaviya inaugurated a Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition showcasing India's sporting achievements and growth of sports infrastructure under the Khelo India Mission.
He emphasized the country's determination to host a successful 2030 CWG and Olympics, with a focus on fulfilling two goals: building world-class sports infrastructure and producing top-notch athletes.
The festivities also marked the 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, with similar events held at over 8,000 locations nationwide to raise awareness for the Ahmedabad Games.
The sports minister also inaugurated a hostel for para athletes, a centralised dining hall, strength and conditioning hall, and a multipurpose training hall and meditation park at SAI NCoE, Gandhinagar.
